Swahili Maulid
It just passed while I was in Zanzibar....It's interesting to read some of the comments on this video:
sasa nauliza sisi tumpenda Mtume MUhhamad kuliko WAKE na masahaba?mbona hakufanya hivi?fuateni mwendo wake maulidi, mwigeni mavazi yake vitendo vyake leo mnaonahaya kuweka ndevu,na kuvaa nguo za kisslamu nyie maulid maulid amkeni.acheni Bid'aa
TRANSLATION: Now I'm asking us do we love the Messenger Muhammed more than him and his companions(?) Why did he do like this? Let you all follow his way of maulid, imitate his clothes, his deeds, today you all see this growing a beard and wearing the clothes of islam, you all maulid maulid(?) wake up and stop this bid'aa!
subhannallah waislam bado tumelala na haya maulid,,,,kama kweli tunampenda mtume wetu basi tufuate maisha yake jinsi alivyoishi kuliko kushughulikia hizi culture zilizokuwa hazina mashiko wala ushahidi wowote..
TRANSLATION: Allah be praised, Muslims, we are still sleeping with this maulid. Truly we love our prophet so lets imitate the type of life he lived more than being occupied with this culture which they do not have any foundation nor evidence for.
maulid ,khitma, arubaini, dhikri etc ni uzushi mtupu sio ktk mambo ya kukutia peponi.lazima tufuate uislam na sunna zake bwana mtume ndio tutafanikiwa...s.a.w
TRANSLATION: Maulid, khitma, arubaini, dhikri [Not sure what the third one is], etc..are worthless speculations/matters; its not a matter for you to get you in the spirit. We should follows Islam and its Sunna of the Messenger (Muhammed) indeed we will be successful.
mimi nakubaliana na nyinyi hii ni bidaa tupu
TRANSLATION: I agree with you'all, this is worthless, bidaa
And the last comment from the video:
astaghfirullah, this is not bi'dah. They are merely showing their love for our Master, Sayyidina Muhammad (saw). May Allah guide you and whoever believe this is bi'dah.

Salam brother,
If you would your research you would know for sure it is bida'ah. But until you haven't searched for the reality behind this seemingly bold statement you will not know what bida'ah really is. The answer might surprise you.
Friendly greetings,
Harun
Bro. Haruni,
Salaam, and thanks for stopping by. There is some misconception created by how I posted that I wrote those responses. Actually those are all from Youtube, including the last one.
I would like to know more about why you believe it is bida'ah.
Peace.
Wa aleykum salam wa rahmatullahi ta'ala wa barakatuhu dear brother Nader,
I follow your log with great interest. I think we have a lot in common and share the same curiosity about a lot of things.
To come back to my statement that the mawlid is a bida'ah, I can reply with the following answer.
1.) I have nothing against the mawlid as long as it conform the shari'ah.
2.) There is a linguistic bida'ah and a shar'i/technical bida'ah.
3.) That something is a (technical)bida'ah doesn't necessarily mean it is something negative. A bida'ah can be halal but also be haram because according to a majority of the scholars of fiqh, excluding the scholars of the Hanbali madhhab, a bida'ah can be classified according to the five categories any human action can be classified in.
I'm not going to quote a lot of proofs but will just give you two links with some interesting stuff on the mawlid and bida'ah. Check this:

These two links are more than enough proof to back up my statement.
I'm not an islamic scholar and also don't want to cut and paste fatawa but I trust these people.
Apart from this, like I said we have a lot in common. Please feel free to send me a private mail. My name is Harun and I'm married to a Kenyan muslima who lives in Nairobi. I travel forth and back between Kenya and the Netherlands. I am very interested in the Swahili and muslim history of East- Africa and plan to spend a whole page on my log on islam in East-Africa, am still collecting stuff. Where do you live?
My personal mail-adress is: harunverstaen@yahoo.com
Hope to hear from you insha'Allah!
Friendly greetings,
Harun
